Amelanchier laevis ‘Cumulus’
The Serviceberry ‘Cumulus’ is a cultivar selected for its more upright form and abundant flowering. In spring, it is covered with a multitude of delicate white blossoms that appear before or along with the leaves. These are followed in summer by small edible, berry-like fruits that turn from red to blue-black at maturity and are highly attractive to birds. The foliage emerges with a bronze tint in spring, turns dark green in summer, and then shifts to stunning shades of orange, red, and purple in autumn, creating a striking visual display. Its small-tree structure makes it an excellent choice for small gardens, urban front yards, or as a street planting.
Soil type: Prefers well-drained, fresh to moist soils and adapts to a wide pH range, from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline. It tolerates clay, sandy, or loamy soils, as long as they are not constantly waterlogged.
