Acer truncatum X ‘Crimson Sunset’
Crimson Sunset maple (Acer ‘Crimson Sunset’) is a medium-sized maple appreciated for its spectacular foliage. Its palmate leaves emerge a purplish-red in spring, turn glossy dark green in summer, and then transform into a brilliant scarlet red in autumn—hence its name. Its crown is dense and rounded to ovate, providing excellent shade. It is recognized for its tolerance to difficult conditions, including drought once established and alkaline soils. Its bark is also attractive, becoming slightly fissured with age.
Soil type: Prefers well-drained soils, from slightly acidic to slightly alkaline. It tolerates a variety of soil types, including clay, loam, or sand, provided they are not excessively wet or compacted. Good fertility contributes to optimal growth.
