Amelanchier ‘Autumn Brilliance’
The Serviceberry ‘Autumn Brilliance’ is a highly valued cultivar known for its multi-season beauty. In spring, it is covered with a profusion of delicate white flowers that appear before or along with the leaves. These are followed in summer by small edible berries, first green, then red, and finally purplish-black at maturity, which are much loved by birds and can also be used for human consumption (pies, jams). Its deciduous foliage is medium green in summer, turning into spectacular, vibrant shades of bright orange-red in autumn—hence its name ‘Autumn Brilliance.’ It has an upright, erect form, and its smooth gray bark adds winter interest.
Soil type: It is highly adaptable and tolerates a wide range of soils but prefers well-drained, rich soil that is slightly acidic to neutral. It can tolerate clay and sandy soils as long as they are not constantly waterlogged.
